Bread Dhokla Recipe: Easy and quick khaman dhokla recipe made with leftover sandwich bread, curd / yoghurt, and semolina rava. a delicious breakfast or snack recipe from Gujarati cuisine that both children and adults will enjoy.
Essentially, this is a sped-up and simplified version of the traditional popular Gujarati cuisine khaman dhokla recipe. In other words, it combines instant rava dhoka and instant khaman dhokla recipes. These dhoklas are perfect as a party snack or for your next potluck.
This quick and easy bread dhokla recipe has several variations. The most common and simple method is to steam the leftover bread directly in a steamer and top it with khatta meetha tadka. Because of the ease and simplicity of this recipe, it is also known as bachelor dhokla. Another option is to combine the bread crumbs with besan or chickpea flour and repeat the process. However, in this recipe, I used rava instead of besan and prepared it with rava, which is also known as semolina or sooji.
In addition, some helpful hints and suggestions for making a soft and spongy instant bread dhokla recipe. First and foremost, I used sandwich white bread slice for this recipe, and I would recommend doing the same. I haven’t tried it with brown bread or even multi grain bread, but I imagine the results would be different. Second, soak the rava and bread mixture for 15 to 20 minutes to allow the rava to absorb moisture and soften. Otherwise, the dhokla will become hard and brittle. Finally, just before steaming the dhokla, I added eno fruit salt. As an alternative, baking soda can be used as a raising agent.

Bread Dhokla Recipe
- 2 tsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard / rai
- 1/2 tsp jeera / cumin
- ▢few curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp sesame seeds / til
- pinch of hing / asafoetida
- 1 green chilli (slit)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp fresh coconut (grated)
- 2 tsp coriander leaves (chopped)
- To begin, trim the sides of four bread slices and coarsely powder them to make bread crumbs.
- Add 1/2 cup rava, 3/4 cup curd
- Also add 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste, 1/2 teaspoon green chilli paste, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric, 2 teaspoon oil, and 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Combine thoroughly, taking care not to form any lumps.
- Now add 1/2 cup water and mix well to make an idli batter consistency.
- Allow to rest for 15-30 minutes, or until the rava absorbs all of the moisture.
- In addition, season with eno fruit salt. Alternatively, a pinch of baking soda can be used.
- Gently whisk the batter until it becomes frothy.
- Transfer to an oiled plate.
- Immediately steam the dhokla batter for 15 minutes on medium heat, or until the dhokla is completely cooked.
- Cool the dhokla for 5 minutes before unmolding it.
- Heat the oil for the tempering.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon mustard, 1/2 teaspoon jeera, 1/4 teaspoon sesame seeds, and a pinch of hing
- Allow to sputter after adding 1 green chilli and a few curry leaves.
- further add 1/4 cup water, 1/2 teaspoon sugar, and a pinch of salt
- The water should be thoroughly boiled.
- 1 tbsp lemon juice, thoroughly mixed
- Pour the tempering on top of the dhokla.
- and shape the dhokla to your liking
- Garnish the dhokla with fresh grated coconut and chopped coriander leaves.
- Finally, serve the instant bread dhokla with green and tamarind chutneys.
- To make soft and spongy dhokla, soak the dhokla batter thoroughly before adding the eno.
- Also, steam for 15 minutes on medium heat, or until completely cooked.
- It is also optional to add sugar to the tempering.
- Finally, when served hot, instant bread dhokla tastes fantastic.
Is there a distinction between khaman and dhokla?
Few people understand the distinction between khaman and dhokla. While dhokla is made from a rice-chana dal batter, khaman is simply split chickpeas. The addition of baking soda makes khaman lighter than dhokla and a popular choice among those who enjoy light, steamed foods.
Is dhokla good for losing weight?
Dhokla is made from besan, which is high in protein. Protein causes a feeling of fullness. You are less likely to binge on fattening foods if you are satisfied. Because dhokla is steamed rather than fried, it is popular among dieters.
