Mooli Paratha Recipe: Mooli paratha is a traditional Punjabi delicacy that is typically served with butter, curd, and pickle. When served with mouthwatering curries, these exotic stuffed parathas are divine. While it is typically served at breakfast. However, it can also be eaten for lunch and dinner.

Another popular paratha recipe from Punjab is mooli paratha. In Punjabi households, this delectable radish flatbread is typically served for breakfast.

The Hindi word for radish is mooli. The term “paratha” refers to an unleavened flatbread made from whole wheat flour. This paratha is known as mooli paratha because it is filled with savory radish stuffing. I’d like to share a family recipe that we’ve been making for years.

This paratha can be made in two ways. Either the stuffing is sandwiched between two layers of dough. Alternatively, the stuffing is combined with the flour and kneaded into a dough. I showed you the first version, which is how it’s done traditionally.

We use white radish or daikon to make this Punjabi Style Mooli ka paratha. Make sure to use fresh and tender radish. If the radish roots are hard and fibrous, grating them will be difficult. The flavor of radish paratha made from fibrous and dense radish roots isn’t all that great.

Squeeze the juice from the grated mooli while making the muli paratha. Otherwise, the paratha will likely break. This mooli juice can also be used to knead the dough for paratha. Otherwise, making this paratha is the same as making any other stuffed paratha.

Ghee (clarified butter) or oil can be used to roast them. Just make sure to thoroughly roast the paratha.

Mooli paratha is typically served with butter, curd, or a pickle of your choice in Punjabi homes. Because we use green chilies in the paratha, a cup of hot tea goes well with it. They’re not only tasty, but also filling.

Stuffed paratha recipes have always been a favorite of mine. My kids, on the other hand, prefer plain roti or chapatti. As a result, I typically prepare only those. However, my children enjoy radish-based south Indian dishes. Radish sambar and pachdi, in particular. When I purchased it last week, my intention was to prepare the same. However, I was unable to prepare it for some reason, and the radish had been sitting in the fridge unattended since last week. I suddenly remembered the recipe for mooli paratha and was able to persuade my children to eat it.

Mooli Paratha recipe

Mooli paratha is a whole wheat flatbread filled with grated mooli, also known as white radish. It's lightly spiced and makes for a filling breakfast or lunch.

As stuffing:

  • 2 cups  radish / muli   (grated)
  • 1/2 tsp  salt
  • 1  green chilli  (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp  kashmiri chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp  turmeric powder
  • few coriander leaves   (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp  coriander powder
  • 3/4 tsp  dry mango powder / amchur powder

Dough for chapathi / Paratha:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour / atta
  • ▢salt to taste
  • 1 tsp  oil or ghee
  • water as required for kneading
  • 1/4 cup wheat flour for dusting

To roast parata, use:

  • ghee or oil as required


Recipe for stuffing:

  • First, strain 2 cups of grated radish through a strainer.
  • Rest for 20 minutes after mixing salt. Adding salt aids in the rapid release of water from the radish. If you like the flavour of radish, you can avoid squeezing its juice.
  • Moreover, completely squeeze the radish juice.
  • Place in a large mixing bowl.
  • Then stir in the chilli, chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, dry mango powder, and coriander leaves.
  • Mix thoroughly, making certain that the spices and radish are well combined. Set aside.

Recipe for chapathi / paratha dough:

  • First, place 1 cup of wheat flour in a large mixing bowl.
  • Also, season with salt to taste. You can also add a teaspoon of oil to make the dough softer.
  • Now, knead the dough in batches as you add water.
  • If necessary, add more water and knead for 5 minutes.
  • Knead the dough until it is nonsticky, soft, and smooth.
  • Moreover, grease the dough with a tsp of oil to keep it from drying out.
  • Finally, cover with a damp cloth and allow to rest for at least 20 minutes.

Recipe for assembling and rolling aloo paratha:

  • To begin, pinch a medium-sized ball of dough, roll it out, and flatten it.
  • Roll it into a 5- to 5.5-inch-diameter circle.
  • In the centre, place the prepared radish stuffing.
  • Begin pleating at the edge and work your way to the centre.
  • also join the pleats and press the pleats from the centre
  • Moreover, sprinkle some flour on top and roll out to the size of a chapati.

Recipe for roasting paratha:

  • First, place the rolled paratha on a hot tawa and cook for a minute.
  • Additionally, when the base is partially cooked, flip the paratha.
  • Then add oil / ghee and gently press
  • Flip once or twice more until both sides are evenly cooked.
  • Finally, accompany the muli paratha with curd, pickle, or curry.

  • To begin, squeezing the water from the radish is optional. However, it aids in the removal of bitterness.
  • Furthermore, I used less oil, but you can add more oil or ghee while roasting to make it more flavorful.
  • Moreover, adjust the spices to your liking. You should exercise caution when serving spicy parathas to children.
  • The recipe can be doubled or tripled if desired.
  • If you use shredded radish or larger gratings of radish, it will be difficult to roll the paratha.
  • Use soft and tender white radishes that have been stripped of their leaves.
  • Add more green chilies for a spicier flavour.
  • Remember to knead the dough until it is soft and smooth.
  • Finally, if you are a beginner, do not overfill the stuffing because it will be difficult to roll. You can also add stuffing to the dough before rolling the parathas.

Mooli is also high in antioxidants and anthocyanins, which means it’s beneficial to your heart.

Does Mooli paratha increase weight?

Yes. Mooli is an amazing source of fiber that helps in lowering cholesterol levels. Great for weight loss too.

They can, in fact. Parathas are traditionally delicious and indulgent, but you can give them a healthy twist to make them the ideal addition to your weight-loss plan. The first step is to separate that paratha breakfast into its individual components.

Is it okay to eat paratha at night?
