- 6 slices bread (white / wholemeal)
- 3 tsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds / rai
- few curry leaves / kadi patta
- 1/2 medium sized onion (finely chopped)
- 1 green chilli (slit lengthwise)
- 1/2 tsp ginger paste / adrak paste
- 2 medium sized tomatoes (finely chopped)
- 1/2 tsp turmeric / haldi
- 1 tsp kashmiri red chili pwoder / lal mirch powder
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- salt to taste
- 1/2 small sized capsicum (finely chopped (colour of your choice))
- 2 tbsp water (if required)
- 3 tbsp coriander leaves (finely chopped)
- To begin, toast the bread in a toaster or tawa until golden brown and crisp.
- Cut the bread slices into cubes and set aside.
- Heat the oil in a large kadai.
- Lastly, add the mustard seeds and curry leaves.
- Sauté until the mustard seeds begin to sputter.
- Add onions, ginger paste, and green chilies as well.
- Cook until the onions sweat and turn translucent.
- Now, add the tomatoes and cook until they are soft.
- Cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
- Mix in the turmeric, chilli powder, sugar, and salt.
- Cook for a minute on low heat, or until the spices are thoroughly cooked.
- Continue to sauté after adding the capsicum.
- Make sure not to overcook the capsicum and to keep it crunchy.
- 2 tbsp water should be added to the mixture and thoroughly mixed.
- Toss in toasted bread cubes.
- And gently fold in the bread pieces without breaking them.
